Drove to Lake Barkley S.P. in Kentucky since I knew the park from a previous visit and it was in the path of totality.
Arrived shortly after what they call "First Contact" (the moment when then moon first touches the sun).
Hiked away from the zoo near the parking lot to a secluded little sliver of beach.
Surprisingly, I was able to capture good photos of the eclipse with my Nikon Coolplex L830 in Night Landscape Mode (found that even though I was using a tripod, using "Hand Held" mode worked better since I was on max zoom). I used a spare set of Eclipse Glasses held to the lens (otherwise I just got a big bright spot). Still had issues right before/after totality with blurred images (as seen below).
I wrote the following right after totality....
What do you say after seeing your first total solar eclipse? Words cannot do justice to it. It is awe inspiring! It shows the vastness of the solar system in seconds.
Yes, animals go nuts...the little fish in the lake went into a feeding frenzy right at totality....then total sielence (untill all the people around the lake started cheering because they were overwellmed with emotions). The sky color before and after cannot be caught on camera....it must be experiance.
wow...I am so glad I did this!
